At the end of January 2026, the DUST project officially concluded its three-year journey exploring how citizens — particularly those from least-engaged communities — can play a stronger role in shaping sustainability transitions.
Throughout the project, partners worked together across Europe to develop new tools, methods, and participatory processes that bring citizen voices into discussions about regional futures. Through research, experimentation, and collaboration with communities, DUST has contributed valuable insights into how democratic participation can support just sustainability transitions.
While the project itself has come to an end, the knowledge and resources developed during DUST remain available. Below, we highlight where you can explore the project’s outputs, tools, and results across the DUST website.
Discover the DUST Knowledge Hub
A central place to explore the project’s key insights is the DUST Knowledge Hub.
The hub brings together a wide range of materials designed for policymakers, practitioners, researchers, and citizens interested in participatory approaches to sustainability transitions.
Here you will find:
5 policy briefs outlining key recommendations for strengthening citizen participation
5 policy videos presenting the project’s insights in an accessible format
4 practical handbooks describing tools and methodologies developed through the project
4 citizen position papers, available in English and local languages, reflecting perspectives from regional communities
Storytelling videos capturing experiences from across the project
Academic publications sharing the research produced by the DUST consortium

Access the full set of project deliverables
For those interested in the full research output of the project, the Deliverables page provides access to all official project reports.
These documents present the research frameworks, methodologies, analytical findings, and experimental results developed throughout the project.

Explore the stories from the eight case study regions
DUST worked closely with communities across eight case study regions, each facing unique challenges related to sustainability transitions.
The Eight Regions section of the website tells the story of the project in each region through an engaging scrolling format. These pages combine research findings, local perspectives, and visual storytelling to illustrate how citizen participation unfolded in different contexts.

Imagining regional futures through RFLLs
One of the project’s key activities was the organisation of Regional Futures Literacy Labs (RFLLs). These participatory processes brought together citizens and stakeholders to explore possible futures for their regions.
Dedicated pages document the RFLL processes in the project’s core regions, presenting the regional designs, background research, and future scenarios developed during the labs.
You can explore the regional RFLL pages here:
Together, these pages provide insight into how participatory foresight and design approaches can support more inclusive policymaking.
Learn with the DUST MOOC
To make the project’s knowledge accessible to a wider audience, the consortium also developed the DUST MOOC — an online course bringing together key concepts, tools, and methods from the project.
The course introduces participants to topics such as:
citizen participation in sustainability transitions
participatory and design-led methodologies
futures literacy approaches
tools for engaging least-represented communities

A complete overview: the Final Conference Package
If you are looking for a comprehensive overview of the project’s outputs, the Final Conference Package provides a downloadable collection of DUST materials and resources.
It offers an easy entry point for anyone interested in learning more about the project’s results and tools.

Continuing the conversation
Over the past three years, DUST has explored new ways to strengthen citizen participation in sustainability transitions, working closely with communities across Europe to understand their perspectives and visions for the future.
Although the project has now concluded, its findings, tools, and resources remain available to support future research, policymaking, and community engagement.
We invite you to explore the resources shared across the website — and to continue the conversation about how we can shape more democratic and inclusive sustainability transitions.
Finally, we would like to thank all members of the DUST consortium, as well as the many citizens, stakeholders, advisory board members, and regional partners who contributed their time, knowledge, and enthusiasm throughout the project. Their collaboration made the DUST journey possible.
